The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a concrete flight risk while under home confinement.
The one-time leader was sentenced of orchestrating a government overthrow in last fall and handed more than a 27-year term in jail, but he continued under confinement pending court reviews.
High Court Judge Justice Moraes said the move to detain the septuagenarian politician was a precautionary step after fresh information came to light.
This involved seeking to disable his tracking device and a call for a demonstration that could facilitate a chance to flee".
Legal Document Reveals Escape Risks
In a document approving the arrest, Justice Moraes said data from the unit overseeing Bolsonaro's house arrest suggested the one-time head of state's plan to remove the tracking monitor to secure accomplishment in his flight.
This, it said, would be made easier by the chaos caused by the protest called by his son.
His son, his son Flávio, who serves as a senator, called for a meeting of his supporters near Bolsonaro's home to take place on the weekend.
Flávio Bolsonaro wrote on online platforms on the previous day: Will you battle for your nation, or observe everything from your smartphone there on your settee? I call on you to battle with us."
He said the demonstration would be so followers could "pray for his physical condition and for the return of democracy in our land."

It was only on last Friday that the ex-leader's attorneys asked the Top Court to authorize him to complete his entire prison term under house arrest, with electronic monitoring.
They also asked that the former president be permitted to exit his dwelling for medical care, saying he needed regular treatment for pulmonary infections and other health problems.
Details of Guilty Verdict
He was determined responsible of leading a conspiracy aimed at maintaining his control after he was defeated in the presidential race to his ideological adversary, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

He was also barred from campaigning for office until 2060 - a decade minus two years after the end of his sentence.
The former president called the legal proceedings a political persecution and said it was designed to prevent him participating in the next presidential race.
