19 of Medvedev's 21 victories have been won on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev secured his maiden championship for 882 days with a win over opponent Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has experienced a difficult season, winning just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the US Open.

The player's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - caused him exiting of the top ten and ultimately splitting with long-term coach Cervara.

Currently working with his coach and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents his initial title after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard court from that period of that year.

Success also signifies he has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters at once, so to win a championship is especially meaningful," said tennis professional the champion.

"This victory is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my child my daughter was born was for her."

Medvedev, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

His retrieving approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had caused observers to doubt if his capacity to compete at the elite level was over.

But the 29-year-old has made changes in the past month, making an effort to approach the net and play assertively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky opponent, securing 4 of the last five points to gain the advantage.

The competitors exchanged break points in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial professional title, took control to push for a decider.

The opponent rescued 4 initial chances in a close deciding set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the win with a shot at the net area, with Moutet unable to manage a volley after over two and a half hours.
